Perspective

gr_blue1

Once the glow of the moon
Was a gentle light for my lover's face,
Or foundation for some new dream
As I reached for, and believed what I'd choose.

Now, no new kiss tastes quite as sweet
As the first one I dared,
And no new passion ever runs quite as deep
As the first one that I shared.

Even success and victory's goals
Soon lose the thrill that they first have;
Each new dream is just a search for the first —
When touch and taste and love were new.

Is it love now, that has changed so much,
Or just perspective that clouds my taste?
Is it love now, that has changed so much,
Or just the same thing that put these lines in my face?
