Listen to the Watchman

Clay Willis & Alan Vining

[Note:  The Biblical book of Isaiah in the original Hebrew is not only scripture, it is also poetry.]

Isaiah 9:2 “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”

Matthew 4:16 “The people that sat in darkness saw a great light; and to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, to them did light spring up.”

[See also Isaiah 21:6-17; Ezekiel 3:17-21; 33:2-9; Hosea 9:8-17]

Here’s a song composed and performed by Clay Willis and his longtime music partner and talented musician Alan Vining based on this prophecy.  Click on this link to listen to the song.

Chorus [Hebrew transliteration – word for word translation]

Am                         haw-lak         kho-shek         raw-aw’      gaw-dole’    ore

The people           who walk         in darkness      have seen       a great       light

     Yaw-shab                eh-rets               Tsal-maw-veth            ore            Naw-gaw

They who dwell         in the land of        the death shadow,          Light    has shown on them.

She’-moo              la          tzo’-faw

Listen to              the         watchman

She’-moo          daw-bawr            Ye – ho – vaw

Listen to           the word of                     God.

(Verse 1 – recitation)

The watchman talks and then he sings

From his parapet high on the tower.

He watches TV and reads the Times

As if watching the bloom of a flower.

The door will be opened to the one who knocks

Peace will come and the seeker will find

The signs of the times are there to read

For those with open hearts and mind.

(Chorus)

(Verse 2 – recitation)

The watchman sees the clouds and dust

Raised by the Jackboots on the rise.

He faithfully calls the warning to his friends

Who may not choose to surmise.

The true meaning of the rise of the Fourth Reich

But busy themselves with their mundane things

While the watchman calls and their doom falls

And the bell of disaster rings.

(Chorus)

(Verse 3 – recitation)

The price of their blood will not be charged

To the one who warns swift and true.

But to each his own fate is charged

And he must pay the bill when it’s due.

Not from virtue, but by faith will be saved,

Those who love and strive for the right.

The promises true are for me and for you

And comfort us in the coming dark night.

(Chorus)
